ABBA

A friend is doing a give away on her blog for the movie Mamma Mia.  Check it out here.  I actually got to see the movie when it was in the theaters with my mom, sister, and Bella.  It really couldn't get much better than that.  I really loved it, and thought it was great fun.  It was fun to hear my mom and sister singing along with all the songs.  I also loved taking my daughter to a movie.  It's pretty special that I even have that opportunity.

Another question she asked was, "What was your favorite ABBA song from the movie?".  I have to say that my favorite song was played during the credits of the movie.  It's called, "Thank You For the Music".  This is my favorite ABBA song ever because it reminds me of this man...

My Grandpa Wayne
Yep that's him too, in my dream car.  A 1964 cherry red Barracuda.
Here's the story behind the song.  We would have these wonderful visits with our grandparents every summer.  We would love when my grandpa would break out his tapes and start to dance and sing to the music.  He would put us on top of his feet and dance us around the room.  It was so much fun.  As you can see from the picture below he could even get my dad up and dancing.

One of my grandpa's favorite ABBA songs was, "Thank You For the Music".  He would play it over and over.  So it was really fun to have all of us girls in the movie theater listening to that song at the end of the movie.  There wasn't a dry eye among us (except for Bella of course).  It was such a nice little reminder of all the joy our grandpa brought and continues to bring into our lives.

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me.
Thank you for the music Grandpa.  I love you!

I loved the movie version of "Our Last Summer", so much so that I had it in my player on my blog, pre-Christmas. Who would ever have thought that James Bond, Mr. Darcy and Will Hunting's prof would sing a song together? I give Pierce Brosnan a lot of credit for his singing, even if he did look like he was going through a proctology exam while he was doing so.

I have a tough time hearing that song, sweetie but I still sing it out loud when I hear it. That song will always be a special spot in our hearts as will my dad, your Grandpa Wayne. Thanks for a reminder of a great memory that us girls had.
