Crocheting

Did you know that I used to live in Puerto Rico?  When I was a young girl my family lived there for almost three years.  It was all during my middle school years.  At least during part of my awkward years I couldn't understand what people were saying about me.  Ha, ha!

Anyway one summer we went home to visit family in Utah.  My Aunt Chloe had an amazing more mature friend (I think I remember her being in her seventies or eighties, but know that I'm in my thirties I'm guessing she was probably only fifty) that she took my sister, mom, and myself to meet.  I remember sitting in her home as she taught all of us how to crochet.  I remember watching her hands and how they moved so quickly.

I think that is when my love affair of crocheting started.  I remember sitting in 90 degree weather in Puerto Rico crocheting blankets.  I actually still have one of the blankets I made.  I suppose I have been crocheting for almost twenty years now.  The funny thing is I never learned how to read a pattern.  To this day if I have to try and read a pattern I get so confused and most times move onto something else.

A couple of months ago my friend Aimee came over and taught me how to make these cute headbands.    All of a sudden I was hooked again.  I love how crocheting is instant gratification.  I can start on a project when the kids go to bed, and be done with it later that night.

I thought I would share a few of the things I've been making lately.
Here is the headband Aimee taught me how to make.
Isn't she the cutest little model?

I've been making quite a few of these little heart garlands for Valentines Day.

My sister, her family, and my parents are planning a trip to Disneyland this May.  My sister wrote me and asked me if I could make her girls some hair clips.  This is what I came up with.

I found some instructions on how to make this scarf.  I'm still working on this one.  Don't you love the rows and rows of scales?  I think it's kind of pretty.
This next one is probably one of my favorite things I've made lately.  One of my friends had a birthday recently, and her favorite holiday is Halloween.  I made these little pumpkins and then turned them into a garland.

Isn't it just adorable!?!

Ohhh! I love to crochet, too! I know how to read a pattern, but I can't make myself hold the hook the "proper" way. It probably makes me much slower since I hold mine like a pencil. I LOVE the headbands-- wish you were here to show me how. And that scarf looks really fun, too!

Those are all amazing! You are incredibly talented. I actually have been thinking the last couple of weeks about learning how to crochet or knit. I don't know the difference, but I think you have me sold on crocheting. I want to make all those things, they are all so cute!!!

I sure hope your fingers are ready to fly because as soon as we hit Disney and people see those hair clips they are going to want some!!! Everything is so cute. I would like to put some of my orders in. Of course the cutest thing is the sweet little model.
Love,
Mom
