Yesterday the kids and I went apple picking, and I guess in a way it was a bust. Although I'm glad that we went and did it. Unfortunately we were a little late in the season for apples. There were a lot on the ground which made the bees a little troublesome. It got so bad that at one point when I was putting the kids in the car they were coming inside the open door, one landed on Bella and my mom instincts kicked in and I killed it with my bare hands. Way to go me!
What made the trip fun was getting to see my cute kids running in and out of the rows of apple trees, and getting to talk with the other women that came.
Bella couldn't wait to get her hands on an apple, while Logan was my little helper in collecting them.
I swear every time I turned around this is what Bella looked like.
Logan on the other hand was a little more apprehensive. I think his expression is so funny in this picture.
Once he realized he could climb up into a tree and pick an apple right off a branch, he started enjoying them more.
At one point Bella has plopped herself on the ground and was just enjoying laying in the grass eating her apple.
After just about a half an hour this is about where my kids were at in their enjoyment of the apple orchard. We were going to head home about this point, until we found some other friends up in the raspberry fields.
Oh how quickly their moods change, when they find something they like.
All in all we had a good time. I now have a whole bowl of apples, that I'm not sure what to do with. Does anyone have some good tart apple recipes? We have been enjoying the handful of raspberries I was able to pick. For dinner last night we enjoyed peaches, fresh raspberries, homemade whip cream, with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Yum!

YUM! I didn't know apple picking had changed locations and I didn't want to drive all the way to Poolesville so I called around to see who had apple picking. Butler's told me their apple picking was OVER which is why we went raspberry picking instead. I am glad you at least got to find some apples. I have a good recipe for apple tartlets and one for an apple crumb pie if you want. Those peaches look SOOOO yummy! And I love all the cute pics of your kids.
Your dessert looks so yummy! I wish I could have gone with you guys, but I had 3 doctors appts yesterday. And apple picking makes me sad since I can't eat the apples!
homestead has a MUCH better selection of (and longer season for) apple picking, so don't give up yet :o) i think we're going to go soon, so i can let you know! and i have an awesome apple-pie-in-a-paper-bag recipe that's really really yummy. it's on my recipe blog if you want it :o)
and that's so fun that raspberries are still around!!! that dessert looked heavenly :o)
I can't believe you wrote that you killed a bee with your bare hands, mom is going to have a fit. Let's just say that epi pen had better be current and in your purse. Regarding apples. I have heard that you can core them, fill them with brown sugar and cinnamon and bake them in your crockpot. Then you top them with ice cream.
Yeah, apple picking was kind of sad. But funny too. :) Maybe it'll be better next year?
Yes your mother did have a fit when I read you killed the bee with YOUR BARE HANDS!!!! That epi pen better be current and that's all I'll say about that!?!?!? My grandbabies looked adorable as usual. Wish I could have shared that dessert with you guys.
Love,
Mimi
Okay I was laughing out loud at that picture of Logan looking very suspiciously at that apple! So classic! And did you MAKE that cute quilted fall table runner? You did, didn't you?
Oh yeah and I can't believe you KILLED that bee you were swatting at! HA HA - en garde! Look out bees! I just stood there and screamed. That's about all I was good for.
