Getting Out of the House

This weekend we decided to finally venture out of the house. We have recently all been hit with icky sicknesses. Jeff having the worst with pneumonia. The kids and I have just been sick with colds. Needless to say we have been having a mild (OK a huge) case of cabin fever. With Jeff leaving yesterday for his first medical school interview (* For more information about Jeff go to the bottom of this post), we decided that Saturday might be a good idea to get out as a family.

We ended up going to Homestead Farm. This is our second annual visit out to the farm to get our pumpkins, and apples. As you can see from the pictures below, it did not disappoint.

Last time we went we were able to see the goats walking across the incredibly high platform. See here. This year the kids were able to pet the chickens, and goats that were out that day.
Daddy got put on 'holding Lincoln' duty. For some reason he was super cranky that day, and since Jeff had taken the week off with the kids (because of his pneumonia) I was happy to pass Lincoln off for awhile.
First we headed over to the pumpkin patch. We kept with our rule that if you can carry it, you can have it.
Bella and Logan were sure to get their money's worth.
We actually ended up getting three pumpkins for under $5.00. What a steal!
Logan was enthralled with this tractor. He wanted to go on it so bad, but once you add up the cost for a family of five we decided against it. I hope Papa is warming up his tractor for our visit next month. : )
Lincoln found the perfect spot right on daddy's shoulder. I have to agree ~ it's a great spot to snuggle.
I know I talk about Bella's hair all the time, but I can't get over how gorgeous it is. This picture doesn't do it any justice, but when she gets in the sun she has the most amazing red highlights throughout her hair. It's amazing!
Speaking of things that are amazing... Can I just say that my kids have the most AMAZING eyes ever.
Lincoln has some of the bluest eyes I have ever seen on a baby. I wish I could get a true color of them, to show you how clear they are.
AMAZING
Bella's eyes are simply gorgeous to me. I love looking at those big brown eyes. Her eyes are very expressive, and AMAZING.
Then there is this little boy. I just don't think it's fair the eyelashes this boy was blessed with. They go on for miles. When he looks at you with those big brown eyes he can melt your heart.
AMAZING!
Anyway getting back to our day at the farm. While we were there I asked Jeff to take a picture of the kids and I. Why is this such an impossible task?!? For all you great photographers out there, how do you do it?
We have a looooooong way to go, in achieving a decent picture.
Yep, not here either. Oh well, at least we tried.

Next we were off to the apple orchard. This is one of the kid's favorite spots.

I love the fact that they have a great place to run...
and run.
There is nothing like sitting under an apple tree, and enjoying a freshly picked apple with someone you love.
It was a perfect day. There is something about days like that, that help you get through all the other days. It gives me a glimpse into what heaven must be like. Being together as a family and, enjoying the things that God created = perfection.

THE END
* Jeff is in Missouri right now for an interview in Kansas City. He has four interviews lined up so far, and is still waiting to hear back from a few other schools. We are hoping by the end of this process he will have racked up quiet a few air miles. As of right now he is interviewing at two schools in Missouri (Unfortunately they aren't in the same month, so he will have to fly there twice.), Iowa, and Pennsylvania. This is an interesting process, but we are excited to see where it will take our family.

So glad you were able to get out! It's been a while since I've been to Homestead farm--I don't think my kids have ever been, and I've never been apple picking. So, I'm thinking we might have to take a trip there in the near future. Hope Jeff's interview goes well. We'd love to see you guys sometime soon, if you all are feeling up to it.
