This weekend we decided to go into D.C. and visit honest Abe, Abraham Lincoln that is.
It was an amazing trip for so many reasons. We decided to let Bella have her afternoon nap, and head in after she woke up. I was a little worried about how Logan would do without an afternoon nap, but he was phenomenal. There were no major melt downs or anything.
Here we all are on the metro heading into D.C.
We decided to take the long way to the monument, because there was more shade. Plus we got to see the backside of the White House. We even got a photo in front of it. Logan wasn't too happy about the idea.
This is what we would see peeking out of the stroller most of the time. I love that little smile.
We stopped and watched a little bit of a street hockey game. Logan loved it!
Bella got to sit back and enjoy the ride, while Daddy did most of the pushing. Thanks Daddy!
Jeff and I crack up every time we see little Bella cross her legs like this. She has done this ever since she was a little baby, and we love it.
Logan enjoyed sharing some of his crackers with a squirrel we saw along the way.
We got to see Marine 1, the helicopters that transport the President.
Finally we arrived at the Lincoln Memorial.
Here we are waiting for the elevator to take us to the top, because we didn't feel like climbing...
all of these stairs with two kids and a stroller. Thank heaven for elevators!
It was such a neat experience to finally get to see the Lincoln Memorial. It was breathtaking and awe inspiring.
The kids especially enjoyed playing with the rope chains. What ever floats your boat, I guess?
Here is a picture of the large carving of the Gettysburg Address that is also in the memorial.
The view from on top of the Lincoln Memorial. Isn't it beautiful!
After leaving the memorial we took the kids over by the reflecting pond to run off a little steam.
Headed back to the metro, after a wonderful day.
Once we got on the metro we enjoyed a great snack of animal crackers and everyone was happy.
It was such a perfect day. I kept telling Jeff how nice it was to be together with our two amazing kids, and just spending time as a family. I love days where the kids are happy, everyone is healthy, the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and we are together. I can't think of anything more perfect.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I'm always trying to snag a few pictures of the kids before we are rushing off to church in the mornings, because I know it won't be any better when we are coming home.
For some reason I can never get a good picture of the two of them together. In this picture it looks like Logan is saying, "You go over here!", and Bella is saying, "Kiss this!"
So tonight was rather a bust. I think Jeff is kind of sick of me telling him that I don't feel like I have very many friends here in Maryland. He decided that it would be a good idea to invite people over and have me make a dessert. I'm not quite sure if guys understand all the work that goes into 'just having people over'. You have to clean the house, make a dessert, get everyone fed, make cookies because I wasn't sure if the original dessert that I made turned out, clean up all the mess that you made while making the dessert(s), and so on. It's a lot of WORK, but I decided that maybe Jeff was right and I should give it a try. We invited four different families, and no one was able to come. Fun times! I think I'm just going to give up.
Anyway here is a picture of the chocolate torte that I made.

She missed lunch, got a late nap, woke up early and then screamed all afternoon which is why i let her play in a BOWL of water today while i was TRYING to cook!!! YOU HAVE FRIENDS!!!! Are you coming to girls night on Friday? we need to have BOW night too!!! If it makes you feel better, i took me 2 years before I hung out with ANYONE!
I WOULD HAVE COME! I feel the same way, most of the time!
Nonetheless, your kids are so adorable! :)
I wish I was there - I would come. I miss having you guys over here! We will let you know when we make it back east again.
If I lived in the area I definitely would've been there--just for the company...and maybe the dessert becuase it looks AMAZING!
Sad, too bad you didn't live here! I would come to your dessert party! And that is such a boys thing, "Oh, come to our house and my wife will make dessert!" It really is so much work!! Your little Bella is precious! I love the picture of Jeff with her as well as the pictures of you and her. Her hat is adorable!! What a fun trip, I'm slightly jealous! Medford, Oregon doesn't have many historical items such as the white house and such!! :) Oh, and love the new look of the blog and the adorable family picture!!
I just love seeing you with both your kiddos. Makes me so happy. :)
Oh, and I forgot to say that the picture of Logan pointing at Bella made me laugh SO hard! OUT LOUD!! Mainly because of your hilarious caption and Bella saying, "kiss this!" Too funny! Sorry for the billion comments!
I would have eaten your torte! It looks SO yummy! AND I'm your friend. Pretty please can I be your friend? You're coming on Friday right?!
I love the Lincoln Memorial. It's one of my favorite places downtown. :)
And I totally would have come over! The desert looks amazing! Are you free sometime this week? We should hang out. I'll call you.
i love the lincoln memorial. it is one of my favs in d.c. looks like you had a great time! we really need to get together. i need to meet those adorable kids of yours!
I'm so sorry about last night! Instead we're like, "How about we drop our kids off with you all evening!!!" Anyway I nearly died when I tasted that chocolate torte. I need the recipe. Like right now. It was A-MAZ-ING!!! And what great pictures! Your kids are so stinkin' cute. And did you not think the Lincoln Memorial elevator was SCARY??? I rode it alone when I was like 15 months pregnant with Brooklyn and had to find a restroom. I was terrified during the whole 15-minute ride.
What a fun day! Carl and I have been trying to have days similar - taking in all D.C. has to offer. We've been to the Lincoln Memorial more than once. It's so great.
Carl is also sick of hearing me say I don't have any friends in Maryland. I hear ya, sista.
Looks like you had an awesome day in the city!!! I couldn't agree with you more about the perfectness of happy kids and family time! There's NOTHING better!!! I really am SO SORRY about last night! I hope you got my message. I was SO bummed when Spencer got off the phone telling me that his mission companion was ON HIS WAY OVER!!! We really were planning on coming over!! Anyway, we're getting together this week!!! FOR SURE!! Talk to you soon! Oh, and SUPER CUTE pics of your kids!!! I LOVED Logan's outfit yesterday!!
Well this friend you have misses you very much and would give anything to hang out with you and your yummy food you make. If people only knew what a great cook you were, they would be begging to be invited over!! I loved the pictures of the kids before church, so adorable. I just want to give Bella a big smooch on those cheeks of hers and Logan is so handsome. He and Maddy will make such a cute couple, and grand babies :)
